Dare we say the “Autumn” word…?
It’s not even September yet, and I’ve heard some people whisper this word as a type of nirvana. A promise that the worst heat, drought and forest fires are being slowly extinguished - not just by flying water-bombers - but by a change of wind and some rain. Torrential in places bringing landslides, but in the case of the Cervo Valley, nothing (yet?) to bring devastation.
Terracotta
“baked earth” in Italian…
Not hard to see why I chose this image of 3 pots decorating the little hiding place for lizards at the cabin.
The forest fires in the adjacent Valsessera were terrible. Although not on the scale we saw in France and Spain, it still ruined livelihoods and nature.
Returning from the cabin last weekend, driving along the autostrada in the Aosta valley, it was clear that whilst many trees had survived, others had just given up. Leaves already shrivelled and just hanging on, waiting to dust the valley floors once the wind picks up.
In the Cervo valley, colours are largely unaffected it seems, so Autumn is promising…
If you would like to experience the golds, browns and crispy mornings from the cabin doorway this Autumn, then just reach out to organise your stay!
Maybe we can start using this word…
